The Kano singer, Yahaya Sharif, will have access to free legal representation in court after being sentenced to death for blasphemy by an upper Sharia court in Kano, Nigerian Bar Association said on Wednesday.

LagospyNG reported how Sharif was sentenced to death on August 10 by the upper Sharia Court in Kano. He has 30 days to appeal if not satisfied with the judgement.

However, the  First Vice President of the NBA, John Aikpokpo-Martins, made this revelation during a fact finding mission to Kano.

Aikpokpo- Martins said the condemned singer has not been given access to a lawyer of his choice as the window to appeal the judgement is drawing to an end.

However, the outgoing Comptroller Of Correctional Service Kano State Command, Ahmed Magaji, told AIT off camera that some lawyers have written and obtained approval to see the singer at the facility dismissing media reports that access to the condemned singer is denied.
