[OPINION] PDP National Publicity Secretary Zoning
In the last few days, I have not felt more loved and appreciated in my entire life. The show of organic support that took over the airspace on what I will never forget as #SegunShowunmi4NPS is movie blockbuster stuff.
I first thought it a joke until I saw the determination, the efforts, the graphics, the subtle treats, the offer to buy the form, and all that was on open display. Wow.
The leaders of the South West under the leadership of Gov Seyi Makinde have in their wisdom zoned it to Ondo, according to a release by the southwest publicity secretary. I must say that many things usually weigh in the minds of leaders when these decisions are taken. It is not as simple or as straightforward as those outside the zoning arena think. Whatever be the reason, we must accept it.
Perhaps, who knows, maybe God has a different agenda for me. We accept the zoning and wish those who come from that area to play their politics there well. Ironically, am I not the son of Victoria Olasoji of Iyayu quarter of Idoani in Ose local government of the same Ondo state? But no, I am not the type of person who looks for a difficult job desperately. There is no great value in such.
I thank all my supporters, I can now sense that indeed a movement is birthed and by the grace of God, I will nurture and cherish it very well.
I have been in this party since 1999, and I doubt if anyone can produce more rushes of work done in defence of the party over the years. I have watched leaders hop from party to party, but I have remained as the biggest cheerleader of the party, crossing swords with many a rival, most of whom I have tremendous respect for their skills.
The burden of supporting a political party in this part of the world is that if you are driven and passionate, there is no easy way but to do what you must with the best God-given skills of yours.
I am particularly not blinded to the unacceptable lack of reform, the draconian use of influence characterised by what has now come to be “The Almighty Governors”, in our case, just 13. I hold the very strong view that leaders must always put their best foot forward, especially when the rivals are no pushovers.
All said, I plead with all fans, supporters and those who own the SegunShowunmi4NPS narrative to please rest it now. If tomorrow comes, we will have a more excellent platform to show just how good we are in all things we do.
Thank you, and May God bless you all.
Segun Showunmi.
