Lagos Car Wash Attendant Flees With Customer’s Jeep, Nabbed in Ogun

A car wash attendant, who played smart on one of his customers and bolted with a Ford Jeep, has been apprehended.
The 48-year-old suspect, Idris Ayotunde, who was bearly a month old at at a cash wash at Jimoh bus stop, Shasha, Lagos was intercepted at Alakija Village, via Olodo, on the Abeokuta/Ibadan Express Road on Friday, December, 4, 2020, at about 8:17am by a team of Safer Highway Patrol.
The patrol team was on stop-and-search operation when Idris, a National Diploma (ND) certificate holder ran into them with a maroon colour Ford Jeep, marked EPE 707 FM.
According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect failed to avail the operatives with the vehicle’s particulars and was taken to Odeda Police Divisional Headquarters, where the DPO, CSP Ajayi Williams, personally interrogated and discovered that he stole the vehicle.
The suspect disclosed that the female owner brought it for vacuum cleaning and handed over the key to him. “But, because we don’t have vacuum engine in our car wash, I decided to take it to another car wash nearby, only to change my mind on the road and bolted with it” Idris owned up.
“It was on his way to Ibadan, where he intended to dispose of the vehicle that he was accosted by the policemen and subsequently arrested” the PPRO said in a press statement made available to our reporter, adding that the owner of the vehicle, one Mrs. Shofidiya Tosin, who had reported the case at Shasha Police Station, had been contacted and she confirmed that the vehicle was stolen from her.
To this end, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Elewran in Abeokuta, the state capital, for onward transfer to Lagos State Command, where the car was stolen.
