Lady Sleeping in Apartment Crushed to Death by Collapse Water Tank in Lagos

Friends and family members of thirty-year-old Cynthia Oguzie have been thrown into mourning after the stand carrying the tank supplying water into various apartments collapsed, causing the tank to fall and crush her to death in her apartment in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

Oguzie was said to have entered her apartment to take a nap when the stand carrying the tank suddenly collapsed, creating an imbalance that caused the tank to fall.

As the tank fell from the collapsed stand, its force ripped through the roof, and it fell on the 30-year-old, who was sleeping in her apartment.

Lamenting over the tragedy on Facebook, Chukwuebuka Kanayochukwu said the impact of the fall claimed Oguzie’s life, adding that the landlord of the building was not in the country.

He wrote, “Beware of Lekki building and their water stand; this is how they sent my sister to her early grave. Thank you, so-called Lekki landlord, and your engineer for doing this type of water stand.

“The landlord said he is not in Nigeria; it is the engineer that built all the houses and sent him the pictures and the videos. This is how the story ended ooo… Zoba Nwanne, rest in peace.”

Reacting to Kanayochukwu’s post, Faith Nwobodo said the tragedy that claimed Oguzie’s life happened last month, adding that she “saw it on her friend’s status. Keep resting in peace, dear.”

People, while lamenting over the tragedy, had been calling for the arrest of the landlord, engineer, and the welder that constructed the collapsed stand.

In the videos and pictures attached to the post on Sunday, April 6, 2025, the ripped roof of Oguzie’s apartment was visible, and the black tank, which had torn as a result of the impact of the fall, was seen lying on the victim’s bed.

The lifeless remains of the 30-year-old were also seen lying motionless on the bed, wrapped in her covering cloth. The collapsed stand was also seen.

As her neighbours moved close to observe her condition, they were heard wailing over the tragic development.

The plan for Oguzie’s funeral arrangement had been announced by her family members. She is to be buried on Friday, April 25, 2025.
