The issue of car snatching is becoming recurrent amongst Uber and Taxify drivers especially in Lagos.

Drivers on their various e-hailing platforms have complained and warned their colleagues to be vigilant enough as some car snatchers always pose as riders.

However, the installation of a car tracker has been helpful for those who are able to afford it. This is a technology that helps drivers to track their cars when stolen.

LagospyNG gathered from a Twitter user, Omo Alamala who shared the unfortunate story of his friend who got stabbed by a car snatcher in Lago.

Uber driver whose car was snatched had a tracker installed in his car was used to trace the thieves and recover his car.

Sharing the story, Alamala wrote:

“This guy below is my friend’s Uber driver. A ride was ordered at about 8:40 pm on Sunday, Sept 20, 2020. He arrived at the pickup location just after Lagos Business School at about 9 pm.

As he started the trip, the 2 guys (riders) stabbed the driver and drove off with the car. They drove off to Ibeju Lekki axis. Unknowing to the criminals, the car had a tracker.

The tracker was used to switch off the engine. The fools thought it was fuel. From the tracker’s voice recording, the car snatchers thought it was fuel shortage.

They had no money to buy fuel, so they decided to sleep in the car till morning as it was very late at night. The Police followed the GPS and arrested the criminals sleeping right inside the car!”
