Governor’s Aide Bemoans Lagos Island Crises, Sues For Peace
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business Districts, Mr. Gbenga Oyerinde, has called on the warring factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, hoodlums and street urchins on Lagos Island to embrace peace and eschew violence.
Oyerinde made the call while reacting to the recent fracas that occurred in some parts of Lagos Island between branches of the transport union, hoodlums and street gangs threatening the peace of the area.
While condemning the mayhem, Oyerinde attributed the escalation of the violence to infiltration of the area by street gangs and hoodlums from other parts of the State under the guise of being members of NURTW.
He stated that the Lagos State Government has restored peace to the area but advised members of the public, especially the business communities, to be vigilant and security conscious while within the Lagos Island Business District.
The Special Adviser warned that security operatives have been mandated to arrest and prosecute anybody breaching the peace of the area, just as he urged them not to be discouraged in their efforts to protect the lives and property of Lagosians while ensuring that the perpetrators of the violence are made to face the full wrath of the law.
