Buhari Should Personally Meet ASUU, Resolve Ongoing Strike – Adeyanju Speaks

Nigeria’s foremost socio-political activist, Adeyanju Deji, has again added his voice to the ongoing industrial action embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, that has grounded academic activities in the country.

The renowned Human rights activist and converner of the Concerned Nigerians, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to personally intervene in the lingering dispute with the striking university lecturers and resolve them by granting their demands.

Adeyanju Deji, who urged the Government to give the academic union all they need to effectively run universities, also lamented over the bad state of tertiary institutions in the country.

“The president should meet ASUU himself and resolve the ongoing strike. They will listen to him and he should give them all they need to effectively run our universities. The state of our tertiary institutions are deplorable.” he disclosed.

It’s no news, however, that the ongoing industrial action entered its hundredth day yesterday. The UNILAG ASUU Chairman, Dele Ashiru, in a recent report, disclosed that the government hasn’t met the union’s core demands which includes the conclusion of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement, abrogation of IPPIS scheme and the deployment of UTAS among others.
