Boy Who Blocked Peter Obi’s Convoy in Kirikiri Prison Over False Allegation
A young boy who went viral for halting the convoy of the former Labour Party’s standard bearer, Peter Obi, during the 2023 general elections has been languishing in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for alleged stealing and fighting in Lagos State.
The boy, whose name was yet to be identified as of the time of filing this report, was said to be returning from work when some people in his neighbourhood accused him of stealing and street fighting.
Thereafter, he was taken to the police station, from where he was arraigned in court and subsequently landed in the correctional centre.
A handle on http://X.com, Nurudeen Hassana, who tweeted about the boy’s ordeal, said she accompanied the boy’s mother to his last hearing in court on March 27, 2025, adding that the case was adjourned till April 28.
She also explained that the court was waiting for advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, adding that the boy had been suffering from the entitlement people had when he was gifted money during the last election.
“Do you guys remember this picture? Well, the boy in front of this convoy is languishing in Kirikiri prison. So Jonathan told us about the young boy. I’ve spoken with his mother, and we also went to his last court hearing at Orege Court, Ajegunle, on March 27, which was adjourned till the 28th of this month.
“I don’t chase clout with people’s lives!! Case file is currently at DPP. The court is awaiting advice from DPP on how to proceed with the case. He’s suffering from the entitlement people had when he was gifted money during the last election. The boy is innocent… he’s just a victim!
“He was coming back from work the day some guys in the street apprehended him and took him to the police station. The guys told the police that he’s among the people stealing and fighting in the area, which is not true. He’s being charged with stealing and fighting,” Hassana tweeted using her handle,
@Hausa_girl, on Monday.
However, in an updated post on Tuesday, Hassana noted that right activist Inibehe Effiong had intervened in the case, adding that plans were on to visit the boy in the correctional facility on Thursday to get further briefing from him.
“Good morning, all. So we’re talking to @InibeheEffiong about this case, and we’ll be seeing him on Thursday alongside the boy’s mother and then proceed to the correctional centre where he’s been held to get the full brief from the boy. I’ll keep updating you all,” the tweet read.
