ALX Celebrates International Men’s Day with Mentally Aware Initiative, to Boost Health Challenges

Nigeria’s leading information technology skill empowerment firm, ALX Nigeria, collaborates with the Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative MANI and joins the rest of the world to celebrate International Men’s Day (IMD) across the cities in Nigeria on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024.

According to a statement by the tech company, “Men are often considered the backbone of families, workplaces, and society at large. Men seldom get the chance to take a break, but for this year’s International Men’s Day, ALX took some time to celebrate the men within its ecosystem with a series of events across its hubs in Lagos, Rivers, and Abuja.”

The highlight of the Lagos hub event was an interactive breakout session led by counselors from the Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative. The session created a safe and supportive space for participants to share experiences and seek advice on challenges such as maintaining work-life balance, managing social expectations, and navigating the complexities of raising a family.

Other activities for the day were designed to encourage interaction and connection among the men. From classic board games to video games encouraging healthy competition, it was a day packed with moments of fun and laughter, reinforcing the importance of taking a breather in today’s fast-paced world.

Commenting on the event, Oluwatoni Ajewole, Activations Specialist at ALX stated, “Our International Men’s Day event at ALX was engineered to provide a safe and supportive space for men to focus on their health while balancing the demands of daily life. Each activity was thoughtfully designed to highlight the importance of mental and physical well-being. This year’s International Men’s Day event was another example of how ALX fosters a community of like-minded individuals—establishing itself as more than just a tech career accelerator providing world-class tech programs.

On November 19, International Men’s Day is being celebrated worldwide for the positive value men bring to the world, their families, and communities. We highlight positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. IMD is a global awareness day for many issues that men face, including abuse, homelessness, suicide, and violence, celebrated annually on November 19.

The objectives of celebrating an International Men’s Day are set out in ‘All the Six Pillars of International Men’s Day’ as it is also an occasion to celebrate boys’ and men’s lives, achievements, and contributions, particularly for their contributions to the nation, union, society, community, family, marriage, and childcare.

International Men’s Day objectives are given as:

To promote positive male role models; not just movie stars and sportsmen but everyday, working-class men living decent, honest lives.

To celebrate men’s positive contributions to society, community, family, marriage, child care, and the environment.

To focus on men’s health and well-being: social, emotional, physical, and spiritual.

To highlight discrimination against men in social services, social attitudes and expectations, and law.

To improve gender relations and promote gender equality.

To create a safer, better world, where people can be safe and grow to reach their full potential
