LASTMA Debunks Viral Story of Officers’ Misconduct in Surulere
Lagos State traffic agency management reacts to a viral story on various social media platforms, where one social media writer, Chiemelie Kyrian Offor, narrated on his personal social media handles X and Facebook about his intervention with LASTMA and how he rescued an asthmatic patient who had a crisis, while the patient’s father’s vehicle was allegedly clamped by LASTMA officers and ticketed for indiscriminate parking around Iponri – Surulere Area in Lagos, on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025.
The post garnered emotions and sentiments with criticism from Nigerians on social media, where many expressed their opinions and experiences with the Lagos State Traffic Agency’s operational misconduct and unprofessional enforcement of Lagos transportation law compliance in the state by motorists.
According to a press statement obtained by Lagosspyng from Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), he said, “The Management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) acknowledges a social media post by Mr. Chiemelie Kyrian Offor alleging misconduct by unidentified LASTMA officers in the Iponri area of Surulere on Wednesday, 18th June 2025.”
Adebayo noted that upon formal notification of these allegations, LASTMA immediately initiated a comprehensive internal review. This included:
- Detailed debriefing of all officers assigned to the Surulere/Iponri corridor.
- Scrutiny of duty rosters, operational logs, and deployment records.
- Efforts to contact Mr. Offor via his Twitter (X) handle to request essential details (vehicle registration, officer descriptions, or evidence) to facilitate the investigation.
Key findings of the review:
- No operational records or personnel accounts corroborate the described incident.
- Mr. Offor has not yet provided substantiating details or evidence despite our request.
- Physical verification confirmed no “Faithview Hospital” exists within the Surulere axis, as referenced in the post.

- Professionalism and ethical conduct in all operations.
- Transparent public engagement, demonstrated by our recently launched toll-free hotline (080000527862) for real-time feedback and complaints.

He concluded by reiterating that in the absence of verifiable evidence or actionable details, LASTMA finds no basis to substantiate the allegations. We encourage Mr. Offor or any witness with pertinent information to contact our hotline to ensure a thorough and fair resolution.
